About

the Sebastian River High School Choral Department

The Seastian River High School Choral Department's purpose is to provide opportunities for students to explore their interest in music, develop their talent in vocal performance and strengthen their educational experience.

The Sebastian River High School Choral Program has been in existence since the school opened its doors in 1994. Each year, the Sebastian River High School Choral Department continues to advance its mission of striving for excellence, self-discipline, practice, patience and pride. The goal is to help further the students' education and musical development as contributing members of the community.

The Florida Department of Education greatly values arts education and recognizes the importance that it plays in both our students’ academic and social lives. The arts support increased critical thinking and problem-solving skills, provide valuable real life connections with math, science and literature, help with cultural and historical context, and serve to provide meaningful, enriching and enduring experiences.

Opportunities are provided to assist in the development of the students' musical talent in guitar and vocal performance. Daily guitar classes provide students the rigor to develop and improve their guitar playing skills. The Shark Choir develops repertoire throughout the school year for their concert performances. Encore, Sebastian River High School's premiere extra-curricular singing group, is made up of students selected through vocal audition. In addition, ensemble groups such as Voce Dolcissima (Ladies' Chorus), Bella Voce (Ladies' Ensemble), Harmonix (Mixed Ensemble), Decibellas (Ladies' Trio), Goodfellas (Men's Ensemble), Duet, and Solo provide opportunities for students to express and develop their talent.

The Sebastian River High School Choral Program consistently receives top ratings at the Florida Vocal Association's District and State MPAs. Choral students also have the opportunity to represent Sebastian River High School at the All-State Conference in Tampa. Performing ten concerts a year at the Sebastian River Performing Arts Center and the annual Four-County Honor Chorus event held at Indian River State College, students from the Choral Department also have performed at Carnegie Hall, the Stetson University's Honor Choir Invitational and Men's Honor Choir Invitational, the Indian River County Literacy Services' Family Holiday Fest, Daniel Ferguson Memorial 5K Walk/Run, Low-Vision Association's Christmas Luncheon, Pelican Pointe Women's Club Luncheon, Indian River County Shop With A Cop, Sunshine Travel Vero Beach RV Resort Encore, North County Republican Club Dinner, Four Chaplains' Memorial Service, a celebration in the Clarence F.
